Establish the service and the coverage first
This article covers DHL eCommerce U.S., not DHL Express. DHL says its domestic eCommerce network serves 170 million U.S. addresses through USPS, supported by 18 distribution centers. Base shipping rates: get an account quote
The domestic product page directs shippers to an eCommerce specialist; we did not establish a universal public base-price grid. Ask for the service and zone rate for your actual billable weight, then identify the fees added to it. A $0.30-per-pound fuel charge is not a $0.30-per-pound complete shipping rate.
For domestic shipments, the published fuel amount moves from $0.29 per pound in September to $0.30 per pound in October 2026, with a one-pound minimum equivalent when chargeable weight is below one pound. The holiday peak charge follows a different table and date window. Both can affect one parcel. DHL fuel and surcharge policies.
Coverage does not remove the need to check the rate row
Keep the ZIP/zone evidence with the written quote. A parcel may be in the national delivery footprint but fall into a more expensive zone group. The selected holiday rows below make that difference visible; the linked full notice also covers other products and returns.
The verification task: Tie the proposed charge to a specific row in the current schedule. A document headed “DHL” is not enough to establish the product, destination zone or weight band used for your shipment.

A narrow extract to check against
The following is a selected extract, not the complete tariff. Amounts are USD per package for the products and zones shown.

Require the product name behind the invoice label
A warehouse invoice may abbreviate a service. Ask the provider to map that abbreviation to the carrier product used in the rate source.
Do not substitute a similar-looking product name or treat DHL Express as interchangeable with DHL eCommerce. The verification record should show the quoted service, the shipment service and the relevant schedule entry.
If those do not match, the charge remains unresolved until the provider explains the difference.
Check weight and zone independently
Request the chargeable weight and destination zone used for the calculation. For a weight-band boundary, ask how the applicable terms determine the band rather than inventing a rounding rule.
Preserve the evidence supporting those inputs. A spreadsheet formula can return the expected amount while drawing from an incorrect service or destination mapping.
Our suggested review uses at least one routine shipment and one shipment near a relevant boundary. That is a starting sample, not a statistically representative audit.
Keep fuel in a separate calculation
DHL eCommerce's published domestic fuel amount for October 2026 is $0.30 per pound, with a one-pound minimum assessment for packages under one pound in chargeable weight. Confirm product scope and account treatment. DHL eCommerce surcharge policy.
Illustrative calculation: Assume a four-pound fuel-assessed shipment qualifies for the Parcel Plus Ground 4–10 lb row, zones 1–8, on October 26, and the published amounts apply. Fuel would be $1.20 and the listed peak component $0.80, totaling $2.00 for those two components only. Transportation, other fees and warehouse charges are excluded.
This example is not a customer quote. It shows why the unit and the schedule row both need to be documented.
Record a conclusion with a clear scope
Use “supported,” “pending evidence” or “inconsistent with supplied evidence.” Attach the shipment reference, source date, selected row, inputs and calculation.
A supported result means this charge is explainable from the material reviewed. It does not verify every shipment or endorse the provider's wider operation.
